Cavs sign Dahntay Jones; LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love and J.R. Smith to rest in finale

INDEPENDENCE: The Cavaliers signed veteran guard Dahntay Jones on Wednesday as a postseason insurance policy for an injury-riddled backcourt. With both Iman Shumpert and Mo Williams fighting left knee injuries, Jones will serve as depth in case either experiences more problems.

Shumpert remains on target to play in the playoff opener this weekend against the Detroit Pistons, but Williams’ status remains unclear. Jones, 35, is a 12-year veteran with 49 games of postseason experience. He is a 6-foot-6 defensive specialist who spent the entire season with Grand Rapids of the Development League.

The Cavs hold a non-guaranteed team option for next season, a league source said.
