The Cleveland Cavaliers appeared to try to fortify their backcourt in the 2019 NBA Draft. Even though they selected Alabama point guard Collin Sexton in the 2018 NBA Draft, they still used the number five overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft on a guard when they selected Vanderbilt University’s Darius Garland.
Garland signed with the Commodores as a five-star recruit according to 247 Sports’ Composite rankings. Although Garland disappointed, it wasn’t because of talent.
He only appeared in five games (per Basketball Reference) after reportedly tearing his meniscus.
