The Cavaliers picked up the option on Timofey Mozgov’s contract for next season, the team announced Tuesday. It was all a mere formality. There was never a doubt the Cavs would pick up the option year, worth just $4.9 million on one of the league’s team-friendliest deals in the league.
The Cavs surrendered two first-round picks to acquire Mozgov from the Denver Nuggets in January. They revamped their defense after his arrival and carried that defensive mentality all the way to the Finals.
Mozgov started 45 games for the Cavs and averaged a career-high 10.6 points to go with his 6.
