Cavs nearing deal with center Chris 'Birdman' Andersen

The Cavaliers are nearing an agreement with free agent center Chris “Birdman” Andersen, a league source confirmed for the Beacon Journal. Andersen, 38, split last season between the Miami Heat and Memphis Grizzlies.

Andersen has averaged 5.5 points and 5.1 rebounds in his career. He won a championship with LeBron James in Miami three years ago but was traded to the Grizzlies in March. Coach Tyronn Lue reportedly went on NBA TV Friday and said the deal was complete, but a league source said it isn’t a done deal yet.

The Cavs are in the market for a backup center after Timofey Mozgov signed a four-year, $64 million deal with the Los Angeles Lakers in free agency.
