Cavaliers report: Forward Tristan Thompson on verge of becoming franchise’s all-time leader in consecutive games played

NEW YORK: In this season of inconsistency and spotty performances from the Cavaliers, one of the few constants has been Tristan Thompson.

Now in his fifth season, Thompson will tie Jim Chones’ franchise record of 361 consecutive games played Saturday when the Cavs play at the New York Knicks. He is on pace to break the mark Tuesday when the Cavs host the Houston Rockets.

Chones spent five seasons with the Cavs and didn’t miss a regular season game his last four years. His streak ended only because they traded him to the Los Angeles Lakers. He continued to play in every game for the next two years with the Lakers, so his personal streak was well over 500 consecutive games.
