DALLAS: The Cavaliers traded guard Joe Harris to the Orlando Magic Tuesday in a money-saving move that also frees up a roster spot.
The Cavs gave Magic enough cash to cover Harris’ contract, according to one source with knowledge of the deal, but the Cavs will still save millions in taxes by dumping his salary off the books.
Harris’ move was inevitable after the Cavs chose last week to guarantee Jared Cunningham’s contract for the remainder of the season, although Harris’ recent foot injury complicated matters and reduced his trade value. Harris had successful surgery in Indianapolis on his right foot Tuesday and could miss the rest of the season.
