Cavaliers Make Right Call in Channing Frye Trade

This is a great move for the Cavaliers for a few reasons:

  • They got rid of Varejao’s awful contract that would pay him $9.3 million next season before his contract becomes non-guaranteed in 2017, according to HoopsHype. Ultimately, the deal will save the Cavs a lot of money in 2015-16 and 2016-17.
  • Insurance in case of another Kevin Love injury. Frye can stretch the floor equally as well as Love on offense by shooting 39.7% from three.
  • Versatility in the front court. Frye is capable of playing both the 4 and the 5 essentially equally well which could be extremely beneficial down the line in the playoffs.
