Despite having a need in the frontcourt, where they are a little thin, the Cleveland Cavaliers used the fifth overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft on a point guard for the second consecutive season. They selected Collin Sexton in 2018 and Darius Garland in this year’s NBA draft.
New head coach John Beilein is known for being a very guard-friendly head coach. That reason is perhaps why the Cavaliers’ front office felt it was OK to select Garland. At the University of Michigan, he helped to continuously develop very good guards.
