The Cleveland Cavs have gotten their man. After a full offseason (and part of a preseason) of on-again, off-again talks, the Cleveland Cavs have signed big man Tristan Thompson to a five-year deal.

Thompson and the Cavs had spent four months attempting to hammer out the details of a multi-year pact. Thompson and his representation were deadset on getting a max deal -- an offer that Cleveland was unwilling to give him.
Things looked to perhaps take a turn for the worse this summer when Thompson threatened to take the team's one-year, $6.8 million qualifying offer and become an unrestricted free agent next year. He ultimately declined the offer in early Octover and began a holdout which stretched until today.
Cleveland never withdrew its original five-year, $80 million offer from the table -- a factor which likely put pressure on both sides to get a deal done, along with the fact that the regular season is less than a week away.
Thompson's five-year, $82 million pact makes him the sixth-highest paid power forward in the league behind Kevin Love, LaMarcus Aldridge, Blake Griffin, Paul Millsap and David Lee.
