The Cleveland Cavaliers are still celebrating their first NBA championship, but the front office is looking to free agency for ways they can continue to improve. However, signing the wrong player (or players) could send them heading in the wrong direction. Here are three free agents the Cavs should avoid this offseason:
SF Jeff Green
Green is on the downside of his career, but he showed he can still contribute in a big way on a contender in the Clippers last season. However, he has has never really lived up to his potential and can be extremely inconsistent. He's also not a great three-point shooter, which would limit his effectiveness in Cleveland's offensive attack.
PG Brandon Jennings
Cleveland is expected to let Matthew Dellavedova walk in free agency, creating a need for a backup point guard. The Cavs will retain Mo Williams, but they're still expected to add depth in free agency. Jennings hasn't been the player the was before tearing his Achilles, and even when he's at his best, he's an inefficient volume shooter that can be a bit of a ball stopper. Cleveland doesn't need that in their free-flowing offense.
C Timofey Mozgov
Mozgov went from a vital part of Cleveland's starting lineup last year to benchwarmer when Tyronn Lue took over as head coach, making him expendable. He is an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and with Tristan Thompson and Channing Frye taking all of this minutes, the Cavs would be stupid to re-sign him just to add size they won't use.
