The Cleveland Cavaliers fell just two wins shy of winning the NBA championship, and while they will be contenders again next season when they get healthy, that won't stop GM David Griffin from trying to improve the roster in free agency. On top of re-signing key free agents like Iman Shumpert and JR Smith, here are the three guys they plan on pursuing this offseason:
Mo Williams, PG, Charlotte Hornets
According to a Cleveland.com report, Williams is “more than interested” in coming back to the team when free agency opens in July:
Williams averaged 14.2 points and 6.2 assists in 29.1 minutes per game in time with both the Minnesota Timberwolves and Charlotte Hornets in 2014-15.
Mike Dunleavy Jr., SG/SF, Chicago Bulls
Dunleavy would fit right in to Cleveland's three-point centric system, and would give them one of the league's best shooters coming off the bench. The downside is his lackluster defense, but LeBron James and the Cavs front office really like him and think he'd be an upgrade over James Jones and Mike Miller off the bench.
K.J. McDaniels, SG, Houston Rockets
McDaniels is one of the most promising young rookies in the league, but will be a free agent this offseason after signing just a one-year deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, who drafted him in the second round. He’s already a good defender, and his elite athleticism would flourish in Cleveland’s up-tempo system. Iman Shumpert will be a restricted free agent this offseason, and McDaniels would be a cheaper option who has a ton of potential.
