It's still unknown if the Cleveland Cavaliers will use the No. 8 overall pick in the NBA Draft to make a trade for a superstar to keep LeBron James, but if they keep it, there's a "strong possibility" they will take Alabama point guard Collin Sexton, according to Kevin O'Connor of The Ringer.
League sources are split on what the Cavaliers will do with the No. 8 pick. Some think they’ll play it conservative and use the selection, rather than risk trading it to appease LeBron James, only for him to leave. If they keep the pick, consider Alabama point guard Collin Sexton a strong possibility.
Sexton starred for the Crimson Tide as a dynamic athlete who is exciting to watch because of his quickness, vision, finishing ability, and defensive quality. He's also perhaps the most competitive player in this class, which Cleveland could use.
However, the biggest questions surrounding Sexton are about his size (he's just over 6-foot-1) and the fact that he's more of a scorer than a playmaker.
The Cavs don't really have any long-term answers in the backcourt. Though they owe George Hill $19 million and Jordan Clarkson $12.5 million next season, Cleveland could look to move both - especially Hill - if LeBron leaves in free agency. They also view Clarkson as more of a bench player than a starter.
Sexton averaged 19.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game for Alabama.
