The young Boston Celtics took the heat to the experience Cleveland Cavs early in Sunday's Game 1, heading to the intermission between the 1st & 2nd quarters with a 31-27 lead. However, the Cavs' depth and pure talent took over the game's storyline from there, with a 35-point outburst in the 2nd quarter keying a massive turnaround for Cleveland.
The Cavs would hold the Celtics at arm's length from there, finishing up a 113-100 victory going away.
Key Stat:
The Cavs crashed the boards with purpose on Sunday, especially when came to creating 2nd and 3rd chances on offense. Cleveland finished with 46 rebounds total, including 15 gritty offensive boards. That grunt work served its purpose, frustrating an inexperienced Celtics squad to no end and getting them out of their games.
Cleveland MVP:
Is this the postseason of Kyrie? It sure looked so in his first-ever playoff game on Saturday, as he chipped in a game-high 30 points thanks to a dizzying array of dead-eye jumpers and herky-jerky drives to the iron.
Boston MVP:
Isaiah Thomas remains the X-factor in this series for Boston. The dynamic young guard did everything in his power to keep Boston in it, leading the team in both points scored (22) and assists (10).
What's Next?
Boston looks to even the series in Tuesday's Game 2 at the Quicken Loans Area in downtown Cleveland. Tipoff is scheduled for shortly after 7:00pm local time.
