The Cleveland Cavs' coaching search is taking all sorts of twists and turns over the past few days, with a new top candidates perhaps emerging from a familiar (for Cavs GM David Griffin) place. Who is it? Keep reading our Top 5 Cleveland Cavs Head Coaching Candidates As Of May 25th to find out:
5. Fred Hoiberg
The Cleveland Cavs are said to be delving deep into the collegiate coaching ranks to find potential candidates to replace Mike Brown. They may not need to dive too deeply, as Iowa State head coach Fred Hoiberg could very well be the man for the job. He rebuilt that Cyclones program from the ground up, turning a Big-12 laughing stock into a perennial championship contender. His unquestionable work ethic is a huge part of that - something the Cavs should have at least one eye on.
4. Adrian Griffin
Poor Adrian Griffin. He was originally labeled as a top candidate for the Cavs job, but time and a sudden jolt of lottery luck for the team may have displaced him from the top-tier of the Cleveland Cavs' wishlist. The Chicago Bulls assistant coach will have plenty of opportunities to shine elsewhere (with the Utah Jazz a distinct possibility). However, now may not be the time for Griffin in Cleveland.
3. George Karl
During any other offseason, George Karl would be on the top of almost every team's list when it comes to finding candidates for head coaching vacancies. However, their seems to be an inordinate wealth of coaching prospects and talent out there on the market right now. If Karl really wants the Cavs job like he says he does, he'll most likely have to wait out a slew of interviews for other potential fits.
2. Lionel Hollins
Hollins is a wanted man right now. The Grizzlies have been rumored to be willing to atone for their mistakes, potentially offering Hollins his old head coaching job back along with some extra sway in the front office. The Lakers are also interested, which could leave the Cavs in a fight for his services. However, there is the matter of the number one overall pick...
1. Alvin Gentry
The current Los Angeles Clippers assistant and former Phoenix Suns head coach has a friend in the front office in former Suns executive (and current Cavs GM) David Griffin. Gentry's got the chops to make it work with the right talent base - something he wasn't given in his time in the desert. He is reportedly a top candidate at this time, so keep an eye on his stock as the week progresses.
