The Cleveland Cavaliers and center Anderson Varejao are in "serious talks" about a contract extension, according to a report from Yahoo Sports, though no agreement is imminent.
The 32-year-old could become a free agent after the season, but both sides have expressed desire to keep Varejao in Cleveland.
Head coach David Blatt put Varejao in the starting lineup over Tristan Thompson, as his playoff experience will help the Cavaliers as they make a run towards a championship. He's also a terrific rebounder and defender, which will be vital on this Cleveland team that features a lot of offense-first players.
Varejao also has a strong bond with LeBron James, as the two played together for six years until James left for Miami.
Varejao averaged 8.4 ppg and 9.7 rpg for Cleveland last year while dealing with a multitude of injuries. He will make $9.8 million this season.
