In today's look into Cavs rumors and news, the Cleveland Cavaliers are reportedly hedging on offering a max contract to Utah Jazz free agent Gordon Hayward.
According to Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com, "the Cleveland Cavaliers have a meeting scheduled with Utah Jazz restricted free agent Gordon Hayward, league sources confirmed to cleveland.com. However, the Cavs have not yet made a decision on an offer, and the team and Hayward are still in a "get-to-know-you" phase."
The 24-year-old Hayward took a huge step forward in 2013-14, averaging a team-high 16.2 points per game while also pulling down 5.1 rebounds and dishing out 5.2 assists per game.
The young forward is currently a restricted free agent, meaning that the Jazz are within their rights to match any offer to Hayward on the open market. Several sources close to the Utah Jazz have indicated that the team is prepared to match regardless of the price.
The Phoenix Suns and Boston Celtics are also reportedly interested in Hayward, driving up his price even farther after he and the Jazz failed to reach an agreement on a contract extension last summer.
