The Cleveland Cavaliers have been more engaged in trade talks that perhaps any other team in the league, leading us to believe that the Cavs could pull of a flurry of moves before Thursday's deadline. They're looking to improve their roster to keep pace and hopefully put themselves ahead of the other title contenders, and there are several moves that will help. Here are three possible trades the Cavs could (and maybe should) make before the deadline:
Cavs trade Timofey Mozgov, future first-round pick to Hawks for Kyle Korver, second-round pick
Korver is one of three players that the Hawks have made available, and the Cavs have expressed interest in adding him for even more three-point shooting. Atlanta seems likely to blow up their current core to start a small rebuild, and getting Mozgov's expiring contract in return would help them have more flexibility this offseason. And, first-round picks never hurt in helping to sway a team to make a deal.
Cavs trade Mo Williams, Timofey Mozgov, first-round pick to Pelicans for Ryan Anderson, Norris Cole
Cleveland's quest for more outside shooting has led them to several potential trade targets, and one of them is New Orleans' Ryan Anderson. A true stretch four with excellent three-point shooting touch, Anderson is exactly what the Cavs are looking for and would play a huge impact off the bench. Mozgov would be a huge upgrade over Omer Asik at center for the Pelicans, and Mo Williams would give them a scoring punch off the bench they really need.
Cavs trade Kevin Love to Hawks for Kyle Korver, Al Horford, future first-round pick
Cleveland is looking for a "star" player in return for Love, but this is (realistically) the closest Cleveland will get to that. Horford could fill Love's role in Cleveland's offense with ease, and he's a much better defender than Love. Korver would add more shooting, while Love would have an increased role on a contender. On the surface, this isn't the return the Cavs are expecting for Love, but it might be the most beneficial from a basketball perspective.
