The NFL has added a new rule, well, sort of

Sometimes, NFL rules have to be added, changed, re-worded, or inserted to address a situation that came up in a contest, or affected the outcome of a game or simply was something that nobody else considered and was deemed on the flaky edge of the cheating biscuit.

When the “Phil Dawson Rule” was born. Dawson’s field goal attempt hit the goal post stanchion, then bounced back into the field of play. Initially, it was ruled no good. But after discussion, it was decided that the ball had to go into the goal first before it ricocheted out and was reversed and ruled a good field goal.
