It feels like it has been forever since the Cleveland Browns played a game.
That is what happens when the team plays on a Thursday night one week, and then follows it up with a game the next week on Monday night.
This week’s game against the Denver Broncos will be Cleveland’s 37th appearance on Monday Night Football, starting with the very first game in 1970 against the New York Jets, and continuing through last season’s Week 2 meeting against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Monday night used to be magical and the Browns have given fans plenty of memories, including:
- Mike Phipps hitting Frank Pitts with a game-winning touchdown to beat the San Diego Chargers in 1972
- An overtime win against the New England Patriots in 1977
- The shocking victory against the Dallas Cowboys in 1979
- Beating the Los Angeles Rams in the first game after the players’ strike in 1987
Things have not gone well for the Browns since returning to the NFL in 1999.
