When the Cleveland Browns returned to Cleveland in 1999, they had an opportunity to draft their franchise quarterback in Tim Couch immediately in the 1999 NFL Draft. That is exactly what they did, but it did not go the way they wanted.
Despite being a talented player, Couch was hampered by injuries in his five seasons with the Browns. He helped them make their only playoff appearance since returning to Cleveland in 2002, even though he did not play in the final games of the season.
With the Browns rebuilding and not able to build a strong offensive line, Couch was put in a disadvantageous position.
