Playing confident is a big ask of DeShone Kizer under the circumstances -- Bud Shaw

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Hue Jackson named DeShone Kizer the starter for the Browns game in London Sunday.

He is committed to Kizer for better or better.

Starting the rookie is the right decision, given the alternative.

Sticking with him if he makes a couple mistakes would also be the thing to do, given the alternative.

We don't mean only Cody Kessler, or Kevin Hogan.

The alternative to sticking with Kizer is another benching and another mixed message sent: play free and easy, kid, and cautiously.

This is why smart organizations try to bring quarterbacks along slowly, so that when they do get their chance their heads aren't obstacle courses filled with self-doubt.
