CLEVELAND, Ohio -- NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is not dead.
Goodell's status among the living was in doubt, however, for a few moments Tuesday when the NFL's Twitter account posted a sufficiently officially-sounding message saying, "We regret to inform our fans that our commissioner, Roger Goodell, has passed away. He was 57. #RIP."
This set off Adam Schefter's batphone, because, five minutes later, he confirmed Goodell was indeed alive and the NFL's Twitter account had been hacked. ESPN's resident NFL swami is apparently so good as his job that he actually scooped the league itself by five minutes.
