As Johnny Manziel’s comeback continues to gain traction, the Browns would be wise to refrain from dumping fuel into the hype machine.
Encouraging the young quarterback when his renewed dedication to football pays off like it did Friday night during the Orange & Brown Scrimmage at Ohio Stadium is the right thing to do. But pumping him up too much and too soon would be a mistake.
Why? Because Manziel has said so.
A day before Manziel completed 9-of-11 passes for 93 yards and two touchdowns in four 11-on-11 series during the intrasquad scrimmage in Columbus, the 22nd overall pick in last year’s draft admitted getting caught up in high expectations and a quarterback duel with Brian Hoyer hurt him as a rookie.
