Marla Ridenour: Browns’ hiring of Hue Jackson as coach right on so many levels

I’m stunned that the Browns got Hue Jackson.

I’m not surprised they identified the Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator as a top candidate, but that they were able to prevail in a coaching sweepstakes that included a return to the Bay Area with the San Francisco 49ers and a looming interview with the New York Giants.

For a franchise that’s won nothing of note in 17 years, that’s a huge first step.

Owner Jimmy Haslam’s decision to hire Jackson Wednesday to succeed Mike Pettine makes sense on so many fronts. First and foremost is Jackson’s success in developing quarterbacks.
