Justin Gilbert suspended four games by the NFL

Free agent cornerback Justin Gilbert has been suspended by the NFL for the first four games of the 2017 regular season, reportedly because he ran afoul of the league’s Substances of Abuse policy.

The league announced the news on its official website.

General managers across the league are likely waking up to the news in surprise that the league would bother suspending a player than none of the league’s 32 teams has any interest in signing to a contract.

Gilbert was a member of former Cleveland general manager Ray Farmer’s famed draft in 2014, his first in charge of the Browns, which will go down as the worst first round in NFL history.
