CLEVELAND, Ohio – Jim Brown, soon to be honored with a statue at FirstEnergy Stadium, captured in bronze just as he has long been at the Pro Football Hall of Fame, left the Browns for Hollywood.
He did not leave for more money from a major league team in Chicago (as did Albert Belle) or to chase and capture a ring, two of them in fact, in Miami (as did LeBron James.)
Brown, Belle and James are three of the greatest players in their sports in Cleveland history.
The case for and against Brown
Brown becomes the fourth team sport athlete after three Indians -- Bob Feller, Jim Thome and racial pioneer Larry Doby) -- to be honored with a statue here.
