Former Browns D-lineman Billy Winn was relieved to survive cut-down weekend, only to be traded two days before season opener

Defensive end Billy Winn lost sleep because he was so nervous entering roster cuts this past weekend. Once he learned he still had a job Sunday, he let his guard down and snoozed for about 13 hours.

But Winn was reminded Friday it’s never safe to relax in the NFL. The Browns traded him to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for a conditional 2017 draft pick.

The deal opened a spot on the 53-man roster the Browns plan to fill by activating running back Shaun Draughn from the practice squad Saturday.

Elevating Draughn would give the Browns three healthy running backs -- starter Isaiah Crowell and rookie Duke Johnson are the others -- for their regular-season opener Sunday against the New York Jets.
