The Cleveland Browns will once again hold a patented quarterback competition in 2017, but there is at least an early favorite.
Cody Kessler will open the year as the number one guy, while the other three quarterbacks on the roster must fight to overtake the second-year man.
Being the top guy during OTAs isn’t a big accomplishment, but it does establish some structure at the quarterback position for the Browns. Unlike past years, when the first-team reps may have been divided evenly, Kessler will be treated as the starter right away.
This allows him to establish some rhythm with the rest of the offense, as opposed to having the rest of the offense work with several players, never establishing any rapport.
