CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Cleveland police officials on Thursday met with Browns officials and players to discuss the controversy surrounding 11 players who knelt during the national anthem prior to a recent preseason game.
Cleveland police spokeswoman Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia said Chief Calvin Williams met with Browns representatives. She said that the meeting was meant to discuss Sunday's season opener and what role the city's police would play in the event.
A Browns spokesman said that they were "just going over some of our plans for the opener on Sunday."
Ciaccia said police officers will participate in an on-field, pregame ceremony on Sunday.
