CLEVELAND, Ohio – Assuming the Browns aren't ready to demote Johnny Manziel for the rest of the season – and that has no more chance of happening than Obama and Putin making a blood-brothers pact – the "discipline" meted out and the value attached to it get sketchier by the day.

Was it a one-game slap on the wrist to get his attention? Or a two-week silent treatment? Does losing Josh McCown for the season compromise punishing Manziel?

What was the end game in demoting him?

Is changing Manziel's behavior the goal? If the demotion is only a week or two, is the message that it's acceptable not to dedicate yourself to your job so long as you don't lie about it?
