Cleveland Browns Mike Pettine performs another Berea solo -- Bud Shaw's Sports Spin

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The longest running tradition of the Expansion Era is head coaches facing the music in Berea.

Often it's a pink slip. Even when it's not, it can be about as much fun as one.

By the uncomfortable standards already established by GMs and owners making themselves scarce, Browns head coach Mike Pettine was left stranded Monday.

(Ray Farmer's statement at a charity event Tuesday doesn't change that dynamic.)

It wasn't quite Phil Savage letting Romeo Crennel explain the Kellen Winslow Jr. staph infection controversy. But it fell more along those Savage-Crennel lines than Pat Shurmur explaining how a concussed Colt McCoy could possibly have found his way back to the field against Pittsburgh.
