CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Jim Brown played his final NFL game on Jan. 2, 1966 against the Green Bay Packers in the NFL Championship game.
His Pro Football Hall of Fame career officially ended when he retired later that summer in London on the set of The Dirty Dozen, a movie that jump started his next career. Despite a glamorous existence in Hollywood, Brown remained socially conscious and fought for human rights and against racial injustice over five decades.
Now Brown is in the twilight of his very own existence. He turns 80 today and remains nearly as relevant and respected as he did in his physical prime.
