Cleveland Browns buy CMSD students clothes to reduce chronic absenteeism

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Hundreds of Cleveland students skip school because they have nothing to wear.

The lack of clean uniforms is a major obstacle to good attendance - and, therefore, learning, Cleveland Metropolitan School District CEO Eric Gordon told the Cleveland Browns, as they worked on a campaign to stop chronic absenteeism.

So the Browns did something about it.

Working with Shoes and Clothes for Kids, the Browns created "Special Team Packages" of uniforms, casual clothes, gift cards to buy shoes and other supplies. The district identified students in kindergarten through eighth grade most in need and distributed 980 packages between January and June.
