BEREA, Ohio -- Browns left tackle Joe Thomas was not blindsided by a trade to the Broncos when the clock struck four on Tuesday.
The Browns and Broncos engaged in trade talks for the eight-time Pro Bowl left tackle, but couldn't strike a deal in the end, a source told cleveland.com.
The Browns wanted a first-round pick and another high pick for Thomas, according to Mike Klis of Denver's 9News. ESPN's Dianna Russini reported that the Browns wanted at least a third to go with the first, but that the Broncos were offering only a fifth.
Talks apparently went right down to the wire, but the clock ran out before they could agree on compensation.
