The Cleveland Browns began the process of trimming their roster on Monday.
The Browns, along with the other 31 teams in the NFL, must be down to 53 players by Tuesday’s deadline of 4 p.m. EST.
All players that are released must go through waivers and are eligible to be claimed by any other team until 4 p.m. EST on Wednesday. After that, any unclaimed player can be signed and teams will begin to fill out their 16-man practice squads.
The following rules are in place to guide teams in creating their practice squads, according to The Sporting News:
- All rookies are eligible
- Players who were on a team’s active roster for fewer than nine regular-season games during their accrued season(s)
- Teams can sign up to four players who have earned no more than two accrued seasons
- Teams can sign up to six players with no limitations on their number of accrued seasons
Got all that?
