Browns special teams coordinator Chris Tabor will closely monitor and dissect several competitions on special teams this summer, but at least for now, long snapper doesn’t appear to be one of them.
The Browns waived veteran Christian Yount on Friday, indicating Charley Hughlett will receive a chance to take up the torch at long snapper. The franchise telegraphed the move when it signed Hughlett off the practice squad of the Kansas City Chiefs on Dec. 24, four days before the 2014 season finale. Hughlett was inactive for the last game.
Yount, 26, appeared in 53 games with the Browns and had been with them since replacing Ryan Pontbriand in 2011.
