Free-agent quarterback Pat Devlin is scheduled to work out for the Browns on Thursday, a league source confirmed for the Beacon Journal on Wednesday night.
ESPN first reported the tryout.
The Browns are seeking depth at quarterback because backup Johnny Manziel has been resting his throwing arm since Sunday due to elbow soreness.
On Wednesday afternoon, coach Mike Pettine said Manziel will likely sit out the third preseason game Saturday night at Tampa Bay, leaving projected starter Josh McCown and third-stringer Thad Lewis to handle the quarterback duties against the Buccaneers.
Pettine said the Browns probably wouldn't summon a new quarterback for action in Tampa if they were to sign one this week, but he would be more likely to play in the exhibition finale Sept.
