The Cleveland Browns signed tight end Matt Lengel to their practice squad. To make room, the team released tight end J.P. Holtz from that unit. They also released offensive lineman Matt McCants from injured reserve with an injury designation.
Lengel, a 6-foot- 7, 265-pound second-year player out of Eastern Kentucky, was originally signed by the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent in 2015. He spent that season and eight weeks of 2016 with the Bengals before New England signed him to its active roster.
The tight end went on to appear in six regular-season matchups for the Patriots last season, and also three postseason games, including their Super Bowl victory over the Atlanta Falcons.
