Browns sign quarterback Matt Blanchard to practice squad

Starting quarterback Josh McCown is in the concussion protocol, so the Browns are preparing backup Johnny Manziel to face the Tennessee Titans in the home opener Sunday. Third-string quarterback Austin Davis would serve as Manziel's primary backup should McCown not be medically cleared in time to start.

Browns coach Mike Pettine has said he wants three or four quarterbacks "on campus." Now Blanchard is the fourth.

The 6-foot-3, 223-pound Blanchard entered the NFL in 2012 by signing with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted rookie from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Blanchard has spent time on the practice squads of the Bears and Carolina Panthers.
