The Browns signed linebacker Cam Johnson to their practice squad on Tuesday, the team announced.
They also released defensive lineman Kelcy Quarles to make room for Johnson on the 10-man practice squad.
The 6-foot-4, 268-pound Johnson is in his third NFL season out of the University of Virginia.
Selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the seventh round in 2012, Johnson has appeared in 15 games (two with the 49ers in 2012, 12 with the Indianapolis Colts in 2013 and one with the Colts in 2014).
Johnson has compiled three career tackles on defense and five special-teams stops.
