BEREA: Browns strong safety Donte Whitner is a microcosm of a struggling defense.
He’s missing tackles. He’s not consistently meeting the standards he sets for himself. He’s falling short of the coaching staff’s expectations.
“I see a lot of people writing me off as being old, as this and that, and wanting me replaced and all these things,” Whitner, 30, said Thursday. “But I can accept the criticism being the leader of this defense. It’s OK. We’re going to fix it.”
The Browns (1-2) must get fix their defense in a hurry if they want to upset the San Diego Chargers (1-2) on the road Sunday.
