Browns release defensive back Pierre Desir, a fourth-round draft pick in 2014

The Browns have yet to announce the move. All NFL teams are required to trim their 75-man rosters to 53 players by 4 p.m. Saturday.

Desir spent the past two seasons at cornerback under the previous coaching staff. But the new regime had been experimenting with the 2014 fourth-round draft pick from Division II Lindenwood University at free safety this offseason. Desir found himself buried on the depth chart behind Jordan Poyer and Rahim Moore.

Desir appeared in 19 games for the Browns with seven starts. He compiled 45 tackles and seven passes defensed.

Desir, 25, came to Cleveland as the 2013 recipient of the Cliff Harris Award, which is given to the nation's top small-college defensive player.
