Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel likely shut down for rest of week with elbow trouble he’s endured since high school

BEREA: Browns backup quarterback Johnny Manziel will likely be shut down for at least the rest of this week because of elbow soreness he has dealt with on and off since high school.

Coach Mike Pettine said Manziel probably won’t play Saturday night in the third preseason game at Tampa Bay. So projected starter Josh McCown and third-stringer Thad Lewis would handle the quarterback duties against the Buccaneers.

“Could [Manziel] play if he had to?” Pettine said Wednesday after practice. “More than likely he could. But why do that in the preseason? If this was the regular season, it might be a different story.
