BEREA: Rookie quarterback Cody Kessler relishes a chance to make his hometown of Bakersfield, Calif., proud in his second consecutive start for the Browns.
On Wednesday, coach Hue Jackson ruled out veteran quarterback Josh McCown for Sunday’s game against Washington at FedExField. So Kessler will definitely start again as expected.
Before Kessler made his NFL regular-season debut Sunday in a 30-24 overtime loss to the Miami Dolphins, he received some surprise encouragement. A digital billboard on I-480 West heading toward Browns headquarters read: “Cody Kessler Good Luck from Bakersfield.”
“That meant a lot to me, and it was something that I didn’t know about,” said Kessler, a third-round draft pick from the University of Southern California.
