Browns notebook: Right tackle Mitchell Schwartz earns praise from coaches, teammates for making strides in contract year

BEREA: Often a target of criticism from outsiders, Browns right tackle Mitchell Schwartz is quietly having the best season of his four-year NFL career.

Schwartz is listed sixth among offensive tackles in ProFootballFocus.com’s rankings. He is PFF’s top-rated right tackle. The five players ahead of him are left tackles, including Browns All-Pro Joe Thomas, who’s in the top spot.

“We’re very pleased with Mitch,” Browns coach Mike Pettine said Thursday. “He’s relentless in his preparation. He does a good job in the meeting room. It carries it over to the field.”

The 6-foot-5, 320-pound Schwartz likes what PFF does, though he thinks it’s difficult to accurately grade offensive linemen.
