BEREA: Commanding the NFL’s worst run defense last season didn’t sit well with Browns defensive coordinator Jim O’Neil.
“It’s hard to swallow,” O’Neil said Saturday before the second practice of rookie minicamp.
So the defensive coaching staff has spent most of this offseason studying the unit’s deficiencies against the run. Defensive linemen, including first-round pick Danny Shelton, have been added. The scheme has been tweaked.
The Browns ranked 32nd out of 32 teams against the run last season, surrendering 141.6 rushing yards per game.
And O’Neil is hell-bent to fix the problems.
