BEREA: Browns rookie nose tackle Danny Shelton took care of one piece of off-field business before training camp opened Thursday.
Actually, call it more of a promise.
Shelton bought his mother a house in his home state of Washington, ensuring the nomadic life his family endured to escape an abusive father while he was growing up was over.
From the subtle smile on Shelton’s face, it’s not difficult to surmise the purchase is a point of pride.
“It feels great, just thinking about how far I’ve come, thinking about everything I’ve planned my whole life,” said Shelton, the 12th overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft.
