Browns notebook: Coach Hue Jackson believes a healthy Desmond Bryant would provide defense with ‘huge boost’

BEREA: Browns defensive lineman Desmond Bryant returned to practice this week after sitting out all of last season with a torn pectoral muscle he suffered in July before training camp.

Bryant was limited Wednesday in the fourth session of organized team activities and didn’t participate in team drills.

But if he can fully bounce back and stay healthy, he figures to compete for the starting defensive tackle job next to Danny Shelton. Xavier Cooper and rookies Larry Ogunjobi and Caleb Brantley are other contenders for the role.

The thought pleases Browns coach Hue Jackson, who considers Bryant one of his favorite players and guided him in 2011 as the head coach of the Oakland Raiders.
