Browns lose all four of their key free agents: center Alex Mack, right tackle Mitchell Schwartz, Travis Benjamin, Tashaun Gipson

There are good players on every NFL team, even bad ones like the Browns.

Keeping those good players and, of course, adding more are fundamental keys to improving.

So logic says the Browns took a step backward Wednesday when they lost four good players -- three-time Pro Bowl center Alex Mack, right tackle Mitchell Schwartz, wide receiver Travis Benjamin and former Pro Bowl free safety Tashaun Gipson -- without adding anyone at the onset of free agency.

It’s certainly not viewed as an encouraging start for the new regime led by head of football operations Sashi Brown and coach Hue Jackson.
