Mingo participated in individual drills during the half-hour period of practice open to the media.
The sixth overall pick in the 2013 draft missed most of training camp and the first three preseason games because of the injury. He's not expected to play in the preseason finale Thursday night at Chicago.
Last week, coach Mike Pettine said the team hopes Mingo can play in the regular-season opener Sept. 13 against the New York Jets.
"I think that target is still up in the air, but it could be for the opener," Pettine said Aug. 24.
The Browns need Mingo to bounce back, especially if rookie second-round pick Nate Orchard misses significant time.
